04/05 PASSERO FAILS PUBLIC OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE AGAIN

From: Jonathan E. Brand on Behalf of
           NLPD Public Oversight Committee

To:      Mayor Passero,

We, the citizens of New London, demand the immediate resignation of Police Chief Brian M. Wright, due to his egregious actions and abuse of power.

Chief Wright has repeatedly engaged in harassment of members of the community, targeting individuals based on their race, gender, and sexual orientation. His actions have created a culture of fear and mistrust within the community, and have eroded the public's confidence in the police department. Furthermore, Chief Wright has been accused of assault, both physical and emotional, against members of the community. His actions have resulted in injuries and trauma, causing long-lasting harm to the victims and their families.

In addition, Chief Wright has been caught fabricating a police document, a serious offense that undermines the very foundation of our justice system. This type of behavior is unacceptable for someone in a position of power and authority, and cannot be tolerated. We ask that Chief Wright's letter of resignation is on your desk no later than 9:00 AM tomorrow. It is time for a new leader who can rebuild trust and ensure that the New London Police Department serves and protects all members of the community with dignity and respect.

Sincerely,

Public Oversight Committee Members

Jonathan E. Brand

NOTE: As of March 15, 2023, recipients M. Passaro and two named members of New London's City Council, have received the above electronically according to our mail tracker scripts but neither have not taken action nor has either responded to this or any other communication from the City's Oversight Committee thus far.

The Mayor and Council members' failure to recognize the authority of the Oversight Committee as an office of local government is a brazen statement about rejecting the authority of the voting public. There is no clearer way to revolt against taxpayers and to challenge the power of the city's resident voters than to keep ignoring the Public Oversight Committee.

04/20 MAYOR PASSERO FAILED TO RESPOND AS REQUIRED BY LAW

RESPONSE UPDATE:

On 04/21/2023 the City of New London's Attorney, Jeffrey T. Lodregan replied to a written/snail mailed follow-up request to comply with this request, stating that because it had been mailed to a former email address for the City's Mayor, neither he nor Mr. Passero had been able to view it. The document will be resent to Mr. Londregan's email address before this coming Monday so that the MAyor may have another opportunity to respond, however, this delay is the direct result in the misuse of the city's email server which has the catch-all setting enabled.

This prevents residents from knowing if their messages were addressed incorrectly by silencing the server from send automating, "No such addressee" or "bounce" messages when an incorrect or old email is used, leaving us in the dark as to weather or not our emails are ever received. This setting fully allows officials to avoid all accountability for reading or from acting on resident messages sent by email. Why reject technology and responsibility at our City Hall?
